User-friendly Personal Alarm Systems

Our user-friendly handsets and alarm transmitters have a variety of handy functions developed to simplify and enhance the efficiency of communication at your workplace. They are portable and small, with or without positioning capabilities.

Our wide variety of handsets and alarm transmitters can issue alarms at given positions, as reminders to oneself or as alarms to colleagues. An automatic alarm can also be sent in case of a fall or a change in normal movement pattern. By pressing the alarm button, help can be summoned at any time, no matter where in the building the person is and completely independent of public cellular coverage.

Personal Alarm Systems – How does it work in practice?

Alarm Activated

In case of a threatful situation, the user presses the red alarm button. A message is then sent to the COBS messaging server and an event handler will, based on predefined configuration, distribute the message to other colleagues, displays and supervision systems.

Alarm is Received by Receiver

When an alarm is received to a user’s portable device, it will, based on content, display an icon, color code and text, sound an alarm, vibrate and provide the user with critical information about the event. This includes type, location and other useful content.

Action

When a user (or predefined number of users) acknowledges the alarm by pressing a button, an update will be sent to all other users, removing the alarm from their devices. This keeps the list of active alarms to a minimum and by that also minimizing the risk of confusion. A busy user may decline the alarm which will escalate the alarm to a back-up team. Depending on alarm type and beep code, the user intuitively knows whether to walk or run to the location of the alarm and support the colleague in need.

Follow-Up

All activities can be logged and stored for evidence of activity and for statistics, helping the organization to be better prepared for the next event

Integration Against Security System

COBS messaging server can easily be integrated with other systems. For example, in the case of a personal alarm with location, a CCTV camera can be activated or adjusted to feed a video stream to a display in the VMS/PSIM system. Doors can be opened or locked and Public Announcements (PA) can be broadcasted in all or specific locations.

Our Types of Personal Alarm Systems

At COBS, we offer a range of personal alarm systems adapted to your work environment and needs. Read more about our different types of personal alarm systems below, including assault alarms, alarms in the event of fights, and alarms for jobs with high-risk for accidents.

Alarms during Fights

In the event of a fight or brawl, if the worker or user feels threatened or in danger, an alarm can be activated by pulling the cord attached to the personal alarm device, triggering an immediate alert to security personnel.

With precise locationing features integrated into the personal alarm systems, the user’s location can quickly be identified, ensuring immediate response and appropriate action. Depending on the features integrated into the system, loud sounds or flashing lights can help signal nearby workers that there is an emergency

Alarms for Environments Prone to Accidents

In many professions, where people work alone, like maintenance staff in server halls, night guards or caregivers in elderly care centers, it is crucial to carry personal alarm systems. With the automatic lone-worker alarm feature, colleagues can be informed instantly in case you are not able to send the alarm on your own.

The man-down option is activated when the device leans over a predefined angle, for example, lying flat on the ground. The no movement option activates when the device has been still for a predefined period of time.

Typically, these features are combined with the Safe Zone feature to automatically initiate the device when a user walks into a potentially violent, threatful or lone worker location and environment.

Personal Alarm Systems for Lone Workers

Health and Social Care

A patient needs help and presses the nurse call button. A team of caregivers then receives a message. Depending on availability, one caregiver decides to take care of the situation and walks into the patient’s room and presses the presence button. The task is then removed from all other caregivers’ devices. Soon, the caregiver realizes that lift help and another teammate is needed. They then press the assistance button of the nurse call and another assistance call alarm is sent to the care team.

Retail

A retail worker sees a potential shoplifter and presses a predefined call button on the COBS device and a message is sent to the responsible guard. The guard walks to the location and in most cases, this is enough to minimize the risk of loss.

A customer dropped an egg package on the conveyor belt, and it is now greasy. The cashier presses an assistance button. A message is distributed to a predefined team and help can arrive without public announcement and noise.

Manufacturing

A leakage, an overheating, or a machine stoppage, a low-level stock or empty supply is reported to the SCADA system. The event is sent to the COBS messaging server and distributed to the maintenance staff as a task. The event can quickly be taken care of, an activity report can be provided, and the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) can be improved.
