The right communication solution is crucial in a crisis situation

In previous posts, we wrote about the importance of having effective and secure communication systems in schools as the threat to students and staff is unfortunately increasing. In order to equip security, where everyone in the school system, as well as guardians, can feel safe, schools need to develop a well thought-out plan for how alarms and communication should work.

We at COBS help you raise the level of security and increase preparedness for emergencies, while helping you utilise the facility in the school’s everyday life in the form of daily effective communication.

Our communication solutions cover your needs

Crisis communication

As previously mentioned, it takes an active effort from each school to ensure that effective procedures and methods are in place for use in a crisis situation. It is therefore important that schools bring in the right solutions for the right needs. The solutions are crucial for how quickly an alarm can be raised and how quickly everyone is reached by an alarm. It can be a matter of seconds and the right solution is crucial.

Evacuation

In a situation of ongoing violence, some parts of the school may need to be evacuated, while other parts should be housed.

In case of a call for evacuation, a loudspeaker system is better than no loudspeaker system, but with pre-recorded messages that are activated depending on the situation (fire, ongoing deadly violence, break, etc.), the solution becomes really effective and practical. The use is very easy and intuitive even if the stress level is extreme as one press of a button is enough to activate a message. At the same time, it is extremely easy for staff to train as pre-recorded messages mean that you only need to hear a few seconds of a message to know what to do.

Containment

In a containment situation, the aim is for everyone to hide from an offender. The key is to hide, lock doors, prevent access and not reveal your location.

In a situation of ongoing violence, the first requirement of the police and emergency services will be to obtain information. If pupils, staff and visitors are hidden in classrooms, it is possible, via our system, to listen to what is happening in the classrooms without revealing themselves, if a possible perpetrator is in the room. This procedure speeds up an efficient and safe evacuation.

Daily communication

As a teacher with a busy schedule, you can save a lot of time by making internal calls and announcements to different zones. For example, to reach out with urgent or important information to the gymnasium, canteen or schoolyard. Fast and smooth contact between teachers, principals, caretakers and other staff makes everyday life more efficient.

The goal of effective daily communication is to avoid stealing too much time from the main focus – students and learning. This is something we can help you with when installing the crisis communication solution.
